On 18 September 2026, the Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities Alumni Club, held a ceremonial enshrinement of Saraswati, the goddess associated with wisdom, knowledge, the arts, language, and music, at the “Enchanted Forest” Shrine, Building 4, Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University.
The ceremony was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Onusa Suwanpratest, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, together with executives from other faculties, academic and professional staff, alumni, and students.
The enshrinement commemorates the 36th Anniversary of the Faculty of Humanities and establishes Saraswati as a symbolic representation of wisdom, artistic and intellectual pursuits, and learning. The statue incorporates meaningful elements that reflect the identity and diverse disciplines of the Faculty. The veena, a traditional stringed instrument associated with Saraswati, represents music and the performing arts, while the sacred manuscript represents knowledge, language, and literature. The Suwannaphingkarn, the emblem of the Faculty of Humanities, is represented as a vessel containing the water of immortality, symbolizing the journey from ignorance towards knowledge and enlightenment.
The ceremony brought together a rich combination of spiritual and cultural traditions. It included Buddhist rites and the chanting of auspicious verses, accompanied by ceremonial conch, bandor drum, and victory gong. The Department of Music’s piphat ensemble performed the traditional “Maha Roek–Maha Chai”, while the Department of Performing Arts presented a ceremonial dance offering. Together, these elements created a dignified and meaningful atmosphere in which faith, artistic expression, and cultural heritage were brought into harmony.
Looking beyond the commemorative occasion, the Faculty envisages the “Enchanted Forest” Shrine as a learning space where belief, arts and culture, and lived experience can intersect. Through the symbolism of Saraswati, the space is intended to inspire students and visitors to explore the meanings and values embedded in art, language, music, mythology, and cultural traditions, while encouraging reflection on the enduring role of knowledge and creativity within the humanities.
The initiative also extends its impact to educational opportunity. After expenses, proceeds from contributions associated with the project will be allocated by the Faculty of Humanities Alumni Club to provide scholarships for students with financial need, transforming collective support for the anniversary initiative into opportunities for students to continue their education.
Through the enshrinement of Saraswati and the development of the “Enchanted Forest” as a culturally inspired learning space, the Faculty’s 36th Anniversary becomes not only a celebration of its history, but also an expression of its continuing commitment to wisdom, creativity, cultural understanding, and access to education for future generations.
